World Mental Health Day - Take A Mental Health Test
The Inequality in Care
In 1992, the World Federation for Mental Health launched the inaugural day of observance (World Mental Health Day) as an international awareness, education, and advocacy initiative to combat stigmas surrounding mental illness.
This year’s consciousness-raising event is intended to challenge discriminatory attitudes and behavior towards mental illness at the nexus of inequality and discrimination.
“The increase in poverty and its devastating social determinants for mental health has been further exacerbated by the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Growing inequalities due to race and ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, lack of respect for human rights and, stigma and discrimination against people with mental health conditions have created visible societal divide and injustices.” - Dr. Ingrid Daniels, President of the World Federation for Mental Health
Regardless of socioeconomic status, people are suffering from psychosocial stressors associated with the management of the pandemic and economic repercussions. The politicization of the public health crisis has been a polarizing influence, which has further compromised both messaging surrounding, and access to, physical and mental health care.
Below, I’ve provided a free mental health screening tool in the event you or someone you know may benefit from an assessment.
